In this year of Test and Review 2011, today's recipe is a drink. Since my husband will be celebrating his 35th on Saturday, I thought instead of buying him clothes, I would test some recipes out.

Well one of the first recipes he and I will test from All You Recipe Week in our home, is a punch.
When I made this I found a short cut , that actually worked quite well, the recipe calls for separate orange juice, and pineapple juice quantities, so I got to thinking,"Doesn't someone make a orange/pineapple juice all in one?"So while going through the store last night, I go by the already made and packaged juices, and low and behold I find a combo juice, of what I am looking for.( I used 5 cups of the combo juice, in lieu of the amounts indicated.I always look how I can save on the grocery bill when it comes to recipes.)I put this together in my jug this morning, and it looks great, and taste yummy. I think the hubby will like it.

For the All You Recipe Week in my husband's and my home, our second recipe we will be testing leading up to his birthday is, the Winter Fruit Salad.
This took me most of the morning to put together before, my husband made it home for lunch. I hope this is one, I can get him to try one spoonful of.
(He's a picky eater, so I thought he might try a salad that was not a lettuce base. )
The biggest time consuming part was the fresh pineapple, and getting it cut up.
But I think it will be worth it. I don't know what I will serve it with yet though.

As most of you know by now, it is All You Magazine Recipe Test Week in my home, as part of the " Test & Review of 2011" journey. If not let me quickly bring you up to speed, I have saved and pulled so many recipes over the years from my favorite magazines, and from my family, I decided to beat the "Winter Funk" I would start testing the recipes to see if they were keepers, or hitting the landfill.Well the third recipe on this culinary journey, is once again from the December17,2010 Issue of All You, and it is the Seared Sesame Crusted Chicken(the original recipe calls for Salmon, but they say it can be done with chicken, and since I or my husband is not a salmon fan we went for the chicken.) Pictured in the magazine is light sesame seeds, but when I went to make this chicken, I used what was available in my area, which was black sesame seeds. All the recipes I am testing this week are leading up to my husband's 35th Birthday. Instead of getting him something material, I thought I would try to expand his palette instead.

This recipe was found in the December 17,2010 Issue of All You Magazine as what looked to be part of the article ": Build meals around inexpensive staples" it was contributed to the magazine by I believe Dianna Ranere(her pic and comment was next to it). My husband is a potato fan, so I decided to test and review this recipe on my husband.(Everything I test this week is leading up to his 35th birthday tomorrow, and me making him his birthday dinner & expanding his palette for his birthday, instead of a material gift.)  This recipe was really easy to do once you get past the cleaning and dicing of the potatoes.(One tip, make sure your shoulder's and upper body are in shape. It took me a bit, with some breaks in between each potato, but I got it done.) After that it is all clear sailing for the rest of putting it together.(the mashing is a great stress reliever, if you have some to work out.) The recipe came out really yummy and went good with the sesame chicken recipe I tested previously.

If you haven't heard or don't know by now, 2011 in my household is the year of "Test and Review". I am testing out recipes that I have pulled from some of my favorite magazine's, and from family, etc... to see if they get made again in my home for anyone.
Well , the 5th recipe I tested was the Lemony Greek Yogurt from the December 17,2010 Issue of All You, and it came out absolutely yummy ! I highly recommend this, if you are a yogurt fan. I tried to get the husband to try it, before his 35th, yesterday, but it was a no go, so I decided, this is something that could fit my diet instead.( Hey, I tried. My gift this year for him, was to try to extend his palette, and expose him to new food, instead of something material-clothing wise.)This recipe in the issue is really simple to prepare, and you will definitely enjoy it, if you can find a copy. You might have to search a bit to find the issue.

This is the last All You recipe, for All You Recipe Week in my husband's and my home, that is from the December 17,2010 Issue, and I made it for my husband's b-day yesterday. It is the Tangy Asian Meatballs, and I made white rice to go with it. Let me say up front, if you are not used to having ground pork, or fresh ginger in your diet, then this recipe will wreak havoc with your system.I thought for my husband's b-day I would make a version of Asian take-out, I gave it the good ol' college try. But I had forgotten we don't eat that much ground pork in this house, I think if I would had changed out the ground pork, for a ground beef, or a ground turkey, added more panko, left out the BBQ and hoisin, and just used 2 jars of plum sauce, the recipe would had worked better.(I know the recipe calls for certain amounts for each item, but I am not going to waste anything, especially when I am making it to test once.)When this recipe cooks, the smell reminds you of what you smell, when you walk into an Asian market. ( I say that ,because when it did cook, it clicked in my brain last night, what I smell when I walk down the Asian aisle, or into an Asian market, when I am in the city. When I do either, I smell fresh ginger and pork. It may sound weird, but it's the truth. Pay attention to your senses the next time you do either of the mentioned.)According to my husband, this dish tasted worse than it smelled, he didn't know what it was, but something was off. I tend to agree, something was a bit off. We thought if it was reformulated, it would make a lovely pet friendly dish, if someone was brave enough to re-work it.
